I know it’s still months away, but I wanted to let you all know that I’ll be at the SCARES THAT CARE WEEKEND in Williamsburg, VA July 24-26th. This is the second annual con and if it’s anything like the first, it’s going to be a hell of a lot of fun.
Those who attend get first crack at my summer release, TORTURES OF THE DAMNED, a few days before it hits stores nationwide. Of course, I’ll have all my books on hand. There will be author readings (and the high strangeness that I do for mine), panel discussions and more. I’ll also be joined by fellow Samhainers Jonathan Janz and I hear Kristopher Rufty and Ron Malfi. Oh, and there’s also this little known writer called Brian Keene that will be there as well. I hear he’s written some cool zombie books.
Check out this pic of me on the website that makes me look like one tired, long-faced bastard.
I promise, I’m waaaay more alive than that in person. Get your tickets and make your reservations and head on down. I had an amazing time last year. Odds are, if you stop by my table, we’ll be sharing some brews.
I had to search through my files for my tattered bucket list this week and draw a nice, straight line through one of the items, ala My Name is Earl. To my surprise, the audio book of my novel, Evil Eternal, was just released. As I told my good friend, Jack, now I can afflict the blind with my brand of horror.
I can’t describe the feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you hear a professional read your words back to you. In Evil Eternal’s case, narrator Seth Michael Donsky adds a delicious, sinister flair to the story. Hearing him read the book, I kept saying, “Did I write that?” I couldn’t have asked for a better person to narrate it. You can download a copy at Amazon or Audible, and also hear a sample from the very first chapter. It’s ultra-wicked.
Also, if you purchase the audio book, you’ll be putting a nice deposit in your personal karma bank. My wife was diagnosed with Lupus last year. Apparently, she’s had it for years but her doctors assumed it was other things. Lupus is like that. I’m donating 25% of all the royalties from the sale of the Evil Eternal audio book to the Lupus Foundation of America. We never knew how debilitating Lupus could be until we came face-to-face with it. We have a very long road ahead of us, but we’re indebted to one amazing doctor for realizing what was taking my wife from me, piece by piece. Help us make sure no one else has to go through what we and so many others have.
I’m going to take a break from horror books and ghosts today to talk about something far more important. A wonderful family needs our help, and we all have the power to make a big difference in their lives.
In his book, ‘Financial Peace’, author and radio personality Dave Ramsey has this to say about giving money to worthy causes, “Somehow giving reminds us that the world does not revolve around us and that no matter what our financial status is, someone always is in a much worse situation. Good things that cannot be calculated or quantified are set in motion in your life when you give.”
Whether or not you’re a fan of Dave Ramsey, what he says is absolutely true. Author, editor and avid book reviewer Kevin Tipple has helped more authors than I can count over the years, including yours truly over 10 years ago when my first attempt at a small novel came out. He has always been generous of his time and his editing and reviews have helped spark quite a few careers.
Well, Kevin and his family find themselves in a tight spot now. Serious medical problems have led to even more serious medical bills. It’s at the point where doctor bills, medications, rent and food costs are building so fast that it’s almost insurmountable. First and foremost, they need our prayers. Second, and just as important, they need financial help. So, I’m asking you to give what you can to a family in desperate straits. Kevin, his wife and children need the community of man to help them through a period in their lives that is testing their resolve at every turn.Donating is simple. You only need to go to his website and click on the Donate button on the left side bar. Even if it’s 1 dollar, if we all make an effort, we can save them from a nightmare that seems, at this moment, to have no end.
Everyone who donates will receive a signed glossy promo card for Evil Eternal. Just pop back here and let me know you donated along with your address. Or you can email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
And while you’re at Kevin’s site, check out his reviews and tips for writers. There’s something for every book lover there.
Over the past year, I’ve been lucky enough to ‘meet’ a ton of wonderful folks who stop by this old blog and chain. Your words of support and encouragement have meant the world to me. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this and all of my posts, and a special thank you to any and all that can help Kevin and his family.
