Reader Appreciation Day!

I have to say, I have the greatest readers in the world. So many of you have been posting pictures of my books (or yourselves with my books) that I just had to share. This is just a small sample of what’s happened in the past week or so. Please keep ’em coming. I may have to make this a monthly blog post going forward.

JoshuaMarsella

@JoshuaMarsella holding a copy of The Jersey Devil before he disappeared into the Pine Barrens, never to be seen again.

Ghost Mine Kim

@kimberlyyerina6466 created a hellish display for her copy of Ghost Mine. I hear she’s heading out to Hecla, WY with a pick axe, shovel, and holy water.

JaninePipe

You better not call @disneynine a Misfit. Though she does know how to rock the grunge look.

watching wellwortharead

@wellwortharead knows how to set the mood. I wonder what a haunted mansion candle smells like. Cobwebs and fear?

LouciferSpeaks

@LouciferSpeaks went old school with this one. Looks like the tips of her fingers are about to be bitten off by one of those nasty beasts.

Creature spookymermaids

I just love this pic by @spookymermaids. Makes me want to head up to our place in Maine and…wait, maybe not!

Die Kreatur, Die!!!

Wow, the German title of my novel, CREATURE, sounds so much more sinister in German. Of course, everything sounds a tad more menacing in German. I say this from experience. One of my grandfather’s was German and if he ever wanted to give me a little jolt of fear, he’s whip out a German line or two. Or sing. Dear God, the singing!

I think I’ve made grandpa one proud angel in Himmel with the German translation of Die Kreatur!

Creature Germany

Now, I’m not sure how many of my Hellions speak and/or read German, but if you’re one of them, I hope you enjoy my first translation. And hey, it already has 2 sternebewertungens! That’s more sternebewertungens than I ever thought I’d have.

Crazy Swedes – I’m Big In Stockholm

Ok, that may be an understatement, but I am IN Sweden. All righty, I’m not personally there, but Creature was just spotted on a bookshelf in the Science Fiction Bookhandlen, which I’ve been told by an awesome resident, Dan J., is the premier horror/scifi bookstore in all of Stockholm. Now I know I have to leave the US to find a horror section in a bookstore!

cof

It’s kinda cool to see Creature between Rice and Straub and right next to Jeremy Shipp.

Swedish bookstore

Flame Tree Press, for those who don’t know, is a UK publisher, so I guess it’s only natural the book would find its way into stores in Europe. Fun fact, my favorite candy as a kid was Swedish fish. They cost a penny a fish and the corner store owner would count them out by twos whenever I slapped my money on the counter, sweeping them into a small brown paper bag when he was done.

Since I’m bound to New York for the foreseeable future, I need your help. If you find Creature in the wild, aka – on a shelf in a bookstore – take a pic and send it to me at huntershea1@gmail.com along with where you found it. I’ll share the pic and thank you by sending you a free book!

Happy hunting!

Book News – CREATURE Has Arrived!

Break out the champagne (or at least a higher end beer) because the new line of Flame Tree Press horror is here to fuel your nightmares! My debut novel with them, CREATURE, is available today in what we call a four-bagger – hardcover, trade paperback, ebook and audiobook.

Creature cover

A heart-wrenching story with massive amounts of carnage. Dare I say there is something for everyone.” Cemetery Dance

ABOUT THE BOOK –

The monsters live inside of Kate Woodson. Chronic pain and a host of autoimmune diseases have robbed her of a normal, happy life. Her husband Andrew’s surprise of their dream Maine lake cottage for the summer is the gift of a lifetime. It’s beautiful, remote, idyllic, a place to heal.

But they are not alone. SomHere’s a little inside scoop on the book:

  • It’s semi-autobiographical. Kate and Andrew are large parts of my me and my wife. She does have a series of debilitating auto-immune diseases that have made our life, let’s just say interesting.
  • I did take most of a summer off from work to take her to Maine to recover and live in our favorite place. It was just after I had watched my father pass away in front of me and we weren’t sure if my wife was going to follow in his footsteps.
  • This was the toughest book I’ve ever had to write, even though going in I thought it would be easy since I knew the source material so well.
  • My wife had a mutt named Buttons when she was growing up. He was hit by a car when she was 12 and she still misses him. This was my way of bringing him back without going to the old Pet Sematary.

Here’s what reviewers are saying about CREATURE :

Creature is quite simply brilliant! It put me through the wringer, the final third of the book ramps things up to unbearable levels of emotional (and horrific) tension. It’s not very often I finish a horror novel with tears in my eyes.” Kendall Reviews

CREATURE! It. Knocked. My. Socks. Off.” Char’s Horror Corner

Creature by Hunter Shea is a fantastically creepy read that kept me awake far into the night.” Port Jericho

Something is in the woods, screeching in the darkness, banging on the house, leaving animals for dead. Just like her body, Kate’s cottage becomes her prison. She and Andrew must fight to survive the creature that lurks in the dead of night.

You can pick up a copy of Creature in your favorite format by clicking here!

Once you read it, let me know what you think! And don’t forget to grab copies of the other great releases by Flame Tree Press by the incredible lineup of authors – Tim Waggoner, Ramsey Campbell, John Everson, Jonathan Janz, J.D. Moyer!

BookExpo Appearance – Advance Copies of CREATURE

Talk about book porn. Ticking another line off my bucket list, I’ll be appearing at this year’s BookExpo at the Javits Center in New York City on May 31st! I’ll be with my new publisher, Flame Tree Press, who has graciously provided 100 advance copies of my debut novel with them, CREATURE, to sign. That’s right. You can get your hands on my CREATURE three months before the official release date.

BEA Signing

Oh, but as you can see from the image above, I won’t be alone. My buddies Jonathan Janz, Tim Waggoner and John Everson will be on hand as well signing their books. Each of us will get an hour for their signing. I believe mine will be between 2 and 3 (even though on the BEA site, it’s listed as 3-4).

What is BookExpo (formerly Book Expo America), you say? Well, my friend Wikipedia sums it up pretty well – “BEA is the largest annual book trade fair in the United States. Nearly all significant book publishers in the United States, and many from abroad, have booths and exhibits at BEA, and use the fair as an opportunity to showcase upcoming titles, sell current books, socialize with colleagues from other publishing houses, and sell and buy subsidiary rights and international rights. Authors, librarians, and buyers for book retailers also attend the event.

So come on down and get high off the smell of new books filling and entire convention center. And while you’re there, stack your TBR pile with this year’s freshest horrors.

Pre-Order CREATURE

Just a little excited over here in the Shea shack. Flame Tree Press is now accepting pre-orders for the trade paperback and hardcover editions of my debut novel with them, CREATURE. And, we finally have a release date – September 6, 2018. As we get closer to the big day, I’m sure you’ll be able to pre-order the ebook as well.
