Signed Copies Of The Entire Hunter Shea Library
Hey there Hellions! Are you all having fun roasting this summer? I know I am. This is what they mean by hell on earth.
I have a little something new for you this time around. I’m offering signed copies of my books that I will mail out to anyone interested in the United States (international shipping gets a tad too steep). Each book will only be $10, which includes shipping. I have a limited supply, but you can get your hands on personalized copies of THE MONTAUK MONSTER, TORTURES OF THE DAMNED, THEY RISE, THE DOVER DEMON, ISLAND OF THE FORBIDDEN, SINISTER ENTITY, FOREST OF SHADOWS, HELL HOLE and EVIL ETERNAL.
I realize that even with going to a convention and book signing here and there, I’ll never get a chance to see everyone. I also know that most horror fans prefer printed books over ebooks (as do I). So if you’d like a book or two or more, send an email to huntershea1@gmail.com and we’ll take it from there. The books can be made out to you or friends and family as gifts (if you don’t particularly like your friends or family). All payments will go through PayPal to keep things nice and simple. Books will be sent on a first come, first served basis until the shelves are bare.
And if you already have a book that you’d like signed, you can send the book to me and I can mail it back for just $4. Email me first at the address above and send your book to :
Hunter Shea, PO Box 232, Yonkers, NY 10710
Best way to beat the heat is to settle down with a good book by the air conditioner. Or, you could read one of mine by a fan.

Come See Me At Scares That Care Weekend
Calling all horror hounds from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The amazing charity event, Scares That Care Weekend, is nigh! Held in Williamsburg, VA, I’ll be there this weekend selling and signing books, hanging out with amazing writers like Jonathan Janz, Jack Ketchum, Brian Keene and Kelli Owen and doing some celeb watching.
Hope you can catch me in the author reading room on Saturday at noon where I’ll be teamed with my Samhain bud, Jonathan Janz. I promise to have something a little…different than your normal reading.
I’m stoked to be there and hope I can catch some of the film fest as well. The best part is meeting you, the folks who read my books and spread the word! I’ll have copies of my newest Samhain novel, Hell Hole, available a week before the official release date.
There will be copious paperbacks of The Montauk Monster. I’ve also loaded up the monster mobile with Sinister Entity, Forest of Shadows and Evil Eternal.
Come on down to stock up on books, get some awesome autographs and horror gear. It’s a wonderful charity event and one of the best horror cons around. And you never know, I may just resurrect my “buy a book, get a beer” promotion I’ve been known to do when I get antsy!
Share a Ghost, Win Some Books
Want to help me haunt the world?
For folks in the US only, spread the word about my novel, Sinister Entity, as well as the companion story, The Graveyard Speaks, on Twitter, Facebook, you name it, and you can win a Prize Pack that includes signed copies of my first two books, Forest of Shadows, & Evil Eternal. Think of it as advancing literacy and a love of the paranormal.
Here’s how you do it. If you’re on Twitter, tweet the books with a link to them (Amazon, B&N or Samhain) with the hashtag #HunterShea. Promote them on other social media platforms and send me the link either on my FB fan page (link to it on the right) or email me at huntershea1@gmail.com. Once I see it, you’re in the drawing.
The reviews right out of the gate have been fantastic. “A skillful blend of supernatural terror and blood-chilling suspense; the result is an intriguing and unique tale that will leave your heart pounding in your chest long after the final page has been closed.” — Matthew Scott Baker, Shattered Ravings Reviews
“Sinister Entity is a great, chilling ghost story with a satisfying twist on the usual. Sinister Entity – for a good scare, but keep the lights on.” — Fresh Fiction Reviews
One winner will be announced Friday, April 19th. And knowing me, I’ll have some extra goodies to give out.
***Congratulations to Gem Blackthorn who won signed copies of Forest of Shadows and Evil Eternal! Thank you to everyone who participated. — Hunter
Houston, We Have an Audio Book!
I had to search through my files for my tattered bucket list this week and draw a nice, straight line through one of the items, ala My Name is Earl. To my surprise, the audio book of my novel, Evil Eternal, was just released. As I told my good friend, Jack, now I can afflict the blind with my brand of horror.
I can’t describe the feeling you get in the pit of your stomach when you hear a professional read your words back to you. In Evil Eternal’s case, narrator Seth Michael Donsky adds a delicious, sinister flair to the story. Hearing him read the book, I kept saying, “Did I write that?” I couldn’t have asked for a better person to narrate it. You can download a copy at Amazon or Audible, and also hear a sample from the very first chapter. It’s ultra-wicked.
Also, if you purchase the audio book, you’ll be putting a nice deposit in your personal karma bank. My wife was diagnosed with Lupus last year. Apparently, she’s had it for years but her doctors assumed it was other things. Lupus is like that. I’m donating 25% of all the royalties from the sale of the Evil Eternal audio book to the Lupus Foundation of America. We never knew how debilitating Lupus could be until we came face-to-face with it. We have a very long road ahead of us, but we’re indebted to one amazing doctor for realizing what was taking my wife from me, piece by piece. Help us make sure no one else has to go through what we and so many others have.
Universal Monsters Unite!
Pop quiz. What do all these fine gentlemen (and gentlebeasts) have in commom? Frankenstein, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Wolfman, Dracula, The Mummy, Dr. Jekyl & Mr. Hyde, The Invisible Man, The Phantom of the Opera. Answer : They were all brought to us by Universal Studios, who over a period of 25 years created some of the most enduring icons in horror history.
In our first episode of 2013, Jack and I, your humble Monster Men, finally dedicate a podcast to the monsters that made us who we are today. Who is your favorite Universal monster?
And if y ou haven’t already subscribed to our YouTube Channel, do it today so you’re eligible to win a signed copy of my book, Evil Eternal!
Giving Thanks From The Abyss
With Thanksgiving just a few days away, I started to think about this past year and the roller coaster ride I call a life. I’ve had great highs and scary lows that have left me numb, sometimes empty, sometimes full, but neither for long.
It’s easy to be thankful for the good that comes our way. But I’ve come to realize that what we have to be most grateful for are the hard times. When we face adversity, we learn a lot about our true nature and the importance of the people that surround us.
Case in point. For the past couple of weeks, my father had his first health scare, his first surgery, and his first brush with the big C. We found out today that the surgery was a success and he’ll be fine. But that 10 day waiting period to get the great news gave us all pause and made us realize how little time we have together. We’ll make the most of it on Thanksgiving. I can assure you that.
Another case. For the past year-plus, my wife has been battling an unknown infection and lupus. We’re at the point where the doctors think radiation is the only cure. Talk about a cure worse than the disease. It’s like watching the person you love most being tortured every second of every day as radiation sears its way through the cells of her entire body. It shows me, daily, how much she means to me, and how little everything else matters if you and the ones you love don’t have the gift of good health.
Looking back at what I’ve written, I saw that this is an overriding fear in almost all my work. In Forest of Shadows, John Backman’s wife dies in her sleep, forever altering his life and his mind. In Evil Eternal, a strong man named Liam watches his wife’s murder and offers his soul to avenge her death, becoming the undead Father Michael. His torment is sealed to go on for infinity. Even in Swamp Monster Massacre, my crazy skunk ape romp, when John’s wife is killed, so is his soul, and soon after, his body. All of these things crept into my work, my conscious mind completely unaware. I’m forcing myself to look into the abyss so I can be grateful that though at times I’m at the precipice, I haven’t fallen through. My wife battles on, and so do I.
In hard times, we turn to others, or God, for strength and support. It’s at these moments where we’re truly thankful for all of the good people and happy moments in our lives.
So this year, when you look back at those moments of hell in your life, don’t ask ‘why me?’ Use them as touchstones and appreciate what they reminded you of, or how they brought you closer to someone, or even changed your life for the better.
Most of all, give thanks.
