Horrortober Movie List
Every time I look at the calendar lately, I get giddy. October – uh, I mean HORRORTOBER, is almost here! That means one month of complete horror immersion, from books to movies and things to do.
I’m looking forward to Horrortober more than ever this year because the slate of horror flicks that have come out in 2018 have left a lot to be desired. I feel as though I’ve been bombarded by duds like Unfriended : Dark Web, The Nun and Winchester. Yep, time in the local movie has has not been time well spent, although A Quiet Place and Hereditary are a couple of bright spots. Hell, Puppet Master : The Littles Reich is now in my top 10 for 2018! That’s all that needs to be said.
For me, Horrortober means going back to revisit the movies that are the reason for the season. My goal, that I’ve been able to surpass most years, is to watch at least one horror movie a day. Every year, I rewatch Halloween (natch), It Follows, Motel Hell and The Funhouse and several other staples. But each year, I also add a bunch I haven’t seen in a while. So, what’s on this year’s to-watch list?
2018 is the year of Fred Dekker for me. I’ve added House and The Monster Squad to the old queue. A few weeks ago, I wrote a post about the top 10 rat movies to see. On that list is Of Unknown Origin, which is now on my Horrortober list. I’m a HUGE John Carpenter fan, but it’s been too long since I revisited They Live. I’m rectifying that this year. The Changeling was just restored in what I hear is a wonderful Blu Ray, which I may buy to give us nightmares in the Shea lair. Or I’ll just watch my old, grainy DVD. Oh, gotta have vampires, so Near Dark is in the rotation.
Now, I have two questions – are you here to chew bubblegum or kick ass? No, that’s not it. What movies do you think I should add to my list? We can watch them ‘together’ and discuss on Twitter. Also, what’s on your Horrortober list? Let’s make this a month long party and swap movie ideas. Those who comment here and share are in the drawing to win free ebooks of Rattus New Yorkus, Jurassic Florida and more. So come on you hellion horror hounds, let’s get pumped for Horrortober!
Trick R’ Treat
That’s one of my staples! My daughter even has Sam’s lollipop tattooed on her leg.
And for being first, email me at huntershea1@gmail.com so I can send you a book.
I haven’t seen MOTEL HELL in years! I’m going to have to grab a copy of that before October now! Just bought the HOUSE 1 and HOUSE 2 set, and IT FOLLOWS. THE CHANGELING, and OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN are Halloween staples of mine. Also PUMPKINHEAD, CHILDREN SHOULDN’T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS, 2,000 MANIACs, NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, and more recently, HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES. (Love the Puppetmaster movies, but I’ve lost track of which ones I “haven’t” seen yet! THE MONSTER SQUAD I watched every year–on VHS–but need to upgrade that sometime!)
Got to have Creepshow and House II.
How could I have forgotten CREEPSHOW? I even have the DVD–LOL!
Creepshow rocked.
Haven’t seen House ii in so long. What was your fave story in Creepshow? Oh, and email me at huntershea1@gmail.com so I can send you a book!
Is it horror, I’m not sure but recently watched I saw the devil which was a great film
It qualifies in my book. 🙂
A movie that always creeped me out was “The Prophecy” with Christopher Walken as the avenging angel Gabriel-you cant beat Walken in any kind of avenging role-that’s for sure!!. Viggo Mortensen played Lucifer and stole every scene he was in!! Good Halloween season movie!!
The first Prophecy movie was so good. Loved how he killed people by putting his finger to his lips.

both are great choices. I loved House. Actually have several copies of it. The second one wasn’t bad but after that , nah. I have Trick R Treat, Salem’s Lot, Demons I and II and several others I watch every year.
I forgot to mention Razorback and Rawhide Rex.
I haven’t seen Razorback in ages! Email me at huntershea1@gmail.com so I can send you a book. 🙂
I don’t know how many true horror fans think the same, but for me, there’s no better horror movie than ‘Alien’. I will never ever forget that first watch in the theaters! Just done right! Also, probably not so horror-horror, but I can’t go more than a month or two without watching either ‘Zombieland’ or ‘Constantine’. Yeah, I know…
Oh and ‘Silent Hill’ for sure! And knowing French cable, we’ll also get most of the ‘Resident Evil’ films. I think if you boil them all down, they’re worth almost one full good movie!
I flip flop between Alien and The Thing as being my all time favorite horror movies. That xenomorph is freaking terrifying!
What about some of those awesome 1970’s made for TV movies like Gargoyles, Duel, and Trilogy of Terror. Another good one is “Thing from another world”. The scene when they first discover the crashed spaceship is one of my all time favorite scenes in any movie!! How about Jacob’s ladder? That movie was pretty creepy at times!!!
